Google Outlines Mobile App Usage Behaviour of Malaysians
In this day and age, most Malaysians are smartphone users. Needless to say, the app usage behaviour of us Malaysians can be quite interesting, and that’s exactly what Google and TNS worked together to find out. Naturally, the results are fairly insightful.
According to the study, Malaysians spend almost equal time on mobile web and apps; we spent slightly more time on the former platform. Other than that, it was also revealed that game apps are the most popular apps installed among Malaysians – not surprisingly, they’re also the most uninstalled ones.
Speaking of games, the research also shed some light on Malaysians’ spending habit in mobile games. The study showed that about 21% of Malaysians spend on extra credits, 20% on virtual money, and 18% of us spend on extra lives. Based on these information, it’s evident that not many Malaysians are willing to spend actual money in mobile games.
When it comes to purchasing products and services within apps, however, there’s quite a stark difference: as many as 69% of Malaysians have bought a product or service within any given app at least once. This makes a lot of sense with the advent of online shopping platforms – such as Lazada and Gemfive – and ridesharing apps like Uber.
As this study done by Google and TNS show, apps have gotten much more important over the years among Malaysians – even in other Asian countries, as a matter of fact. However, it’s clear that many of us are not very keen to spend money in mobile games for virtual benefits yet.
