Attempted Rape at McDonald's, Johor Bahru

On 20th May 2016, Friday at around 6.10am, a case of intention to rape happened at McDonald’s in Taman Mount Austin.

The process of situational happening
On that day, the victim gathered with her friend to enjoy breakfast in McDonald’s, after purchasing her food, she went to restroom to make up and tidy up her hair.

When she was tying her hair after coming out from the female restroom at the basin, one of her female friend went into the restroom. Suddenly, a Malay guy covered her face with his right palm from her back and dragged her into handicapped restroom.

After investigation, the mirror in front of the adult-used basin could not reflect the door of the handicapped restroom resulted the victim could not notice immediately the movement of the Malay guy from her back.
Then, at the moment when her female friend came out from the restroom, she heard strange sound but could not confirm the source of sound was from outside or inside the restroom.

After the victim being dragged into the handicapped restroom, she struggled and exhausted all her strength to find a chance to breathe to avoid herself from being fainted. The Malay guy had a fit body shape and wore few layers of clothes with a grey jacket. After dragging the victim into the restroom, he quickly locked the door up, pushed the victim down to the floor, clutched her neck and covered her mouth to prevent victim from escaping and screaming.

The Malay guy was strong and proficient with his move, no matter how hard the victim struggled was useless, although she tried to beat the Malay guy but she can only reach his mouth and was bitten by the guy.
When the victim heard the sound of footsteps of her Indian friend walked out from the restroom, she felt even hopeless and then she opposed and resisted the Malay guy in greater extent, unfortunately, he started to smash her head on the floor many times to cause her faint.

While her head was being smashed to the floor, her mouth was facing under the door which her voice could reach outside, she grabbed this chance and started to scream loudly, all her friends heard and rushed to the direction of restroom, the Malay guy chose to give up and walked out from the restroom, he took up the victim’s handbag which she left beside the basin and pretended as a maintenance person and walked steadily before leaving the restroom.

When her friend saw the Malay guy was carrying the victim’s handbag, she quickly snatched from him, the Malay guy did not react and continue to leave the scene from the back door of McDonald’s. Although at the time there were two waiters outside the restroom, but they did not stop the Malay guy from being escaping instead let him go off without hindrances.

Someone reported that the Malay guy is the employee of McDonald’s but was absent for reason. The McDonald’s manager was around but there was no intention to assist in this case and warned the waiters do not help to distinguish the face of the Malay guy if happen that they are asked by the police.

The Malay guy’s car was parked in front of Hong Leong Bank, gold colour Perodua Kenari with car plate number JGM 6636. Her male friend pretended to phone someone and put the phone at the side of his ears to take down the vehicle picture, and the Malay guy realised and flee from the bank.

Report to Police
After many times of calls to request police to come and observe at the CCTV, the police arrived in long-waited 30 minutes, they came to understand the whole situation, then, the victim and her friends went with the policemen to Balai Polis Setia Indah to lodge a report for her case. The policemen misunderstood the case as assault and fight and summoned the victim to hospital for check-up on her wounds.

After the check-up, it was identified that the victim was bruised badly at her left skull and found many bruises on other parts of her body. The victim and her friends went back to police station after check-up at the hospital and record full statement of her case. At that point, the policemen found out it was not merely assault but intention to rape.

When the police requested the recording of video in the CCTV from the manager, he clarified that unless there is a warrant to arrest, he will not disclose the content of CCTV. When the police had all the rights to request from him after the victim made a report at the police station, he audaciously and deliberately provided an incomplete video clip where the main part of the scene when the face of the suspect can be recognised was cut.

Right now, the case has been handled by the police, we anticipate headquarter of McDonald’s to give full cooperation and reasonable action towards this case.

Please be informed that the public should be aware of the gold Perodua Kenari, JGM 6636. Everyone who uses the restroom in McDonald’s Taman Mount Austin should be more cautious and extra careful.

PETALING JAYA: McDonald’s Malaysia says it is working closely with the police to facilitate investigations into an alleged attempted sexual assault on a customer at one of its outlets in Johor Bahru.

In a brief statement, the popular fast-food franchise said it had given authorities full access to interview its personnel and view CCTV recordings on the day of the alleged incident.

“We believe that our strong cooperation has contributed to the authorities being able to conduct a speedy investigation leading to the arrest of a suspect.”

McDonald’s, it added, took the welfare and safety of its customers very seriously and wanted to see the perpetrator “brought to justice.”

“Our hearts go out to the victim and we pray for her well-being and speedy recovery.”

Yesterday, police said they arrested a man, in his late 20s, who is believed to have attempted to rape a young woman in the restroom of the fast food restaurant.

Johor Bahru South Police apprehended the suspect at the outlet itself, where he is a part-time employee.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and Section 354 of the same Act for molesting.

In the incident, the young woman escaped from the suspect who attempted to sexually assault her in the bathroom of the restaurant last Friday morning.

The victim was grooming herself in front of a mirror in the washroom when the suspect grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth before dragging her into the toilet reserved for disabled patrons.

Fortunately for her, she spotted another patron walking into the washroom and let out a scream, which scared the suspect, who fled with the girl’s handbag.

The victim suffered bruises to her face and body.
