Facebook Opens Its Malaysia Office in KL

Facebook Opens Up Their Malaysia Office, Continues to Conquer Asia

Facebook has officially opened its new office in Malaysia.

Dan Neary, Facebook’s Asia-Pacific vice president, announced the opening on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

He wrote that 18 million Malaysians, making up 81% of people on the internet in the country, use Facebook every month.

He said that Facebook has helped connect people around the world allowing them to be in touch with family, friends and customers.

The Malaysia office in Kuala Lumpur is aimed at helping business owners stay connected with their customers. Neary wrote of one example:

“I particularly like the story of the Malaysia e-commerce startup Zawara, which provides modern clothing for Muslim women. Using Facebook, they’re creatively showcasing their beautiful clothing with the right people whilst demonstrating their virtual fitting room technology […] And we’ve been partnering with businesses of all sizes to help them connect to more people with relevant messages.”

The new opening comes two weeks after Facebook introduced an office in the Philippines. Malaysia was chosen for obvious reasons, Neary explained:

“Malaysia is one of the leaders in digital adoption and innovation across Southeast Asia. Be it mobile penetration or time spent on smartphones. Malaysians are leading the charge in the region and its digital transformation has positively impacted both people and businesses.”

According to Facebook, 94% of the 12 million users who access the social network daily do so on their phones.

Malaysians also have some surprising user statistics as they are ranked 10th in the world for having the most friends.

Users in the country have 60% more friends than the global average number on Facebook.

Dan Neary: I’m thrilled to share that Facebook has just opened an office in Malaysia. Our mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected – and 18M Malaysians are using Facebook every month. That is over 81% of everyone on the internet — connecting with family, friends, and businesses for the moments important to them.

I particularly like the story of the Malaysia e-commerce startup Zawara, which provides modern clothing for Muslim women. Using Facebook, they’re creatively showcasing their beautiful clothing with the right people whilst demonstrating their virtual fitting room technology. Today, they have grown from a 2-person start-up to a thriving e-commerce destination with 19 offline stores. And we’ve been partnering with businesses of all sizes to help them connect to more people with relevant messages.

Malaysia is one of the leaders in digital adoption and innovation across Southeast Asia. Be it mobile penetration or time spent on smartphones, Malaysians are leading the charge in the region and its digital transformation has positively impacted both people and businesses.

There’s never been a more exciting time for Facebook and Malaysia. We look forward to more conversations with businesses in the coming days, and the opportunity to continue growing together. ‪#‎FB4MY‬
