Malaysia Airlines MH2718 Landed Safely With No Injuries
Malaysia Airlines: Malaysia Airlines flight MH2718 on 8 April 2017 from Kuala Lumpur skidded upon landing at Sibu Airport at 10:17pm during a heavy downpour.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was carrying 61 passengers and six crew.
All onboard safely disembarked via two slide rafts. No injuries have been reported so far.
The safety of all passengers is of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines and an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
NEWS ALERT: Cancellation of flights to Sibu airport today
48 scheduled flights to Sibu airport today have been cancelled after the MH2718 plane slid off the runway last night.
Sibu airport manager Zainuddin Abu Nasir said 28 of the lights cancelled are operated by MASwings, 16 by AirAsia and 4 by Malaysia Airlines. As a result, 3,787 passengers are affected and have been advised to contact their airlines.
The Malaysia Airlines MH2718 plane slid off runway during rainy weather at Sibu airport at 10.17pm yesterday on a flight from Kuala Lumpur. All 61 passengers and six crew on board the Boeing 737-800 are safe, having exited the plane via inflatable slides.

Malaysia Airlines: Passengers and crew of flight MH2718 on 8 April 2017 that skidded upon landing at Sibu Airport have now been examined by medical personnel. Reports confirmed that no physical injuries have been sustained by the 61 passengers, two infants and six crew onboard as a result of the incident. Families of crew have also been notified of the incident.
Malaysia Airlines staff in Sibu are currently assisting passengers with their immediate needs.
The airline is currently working with airport authorities to retrieve baggage onboard the aircraft. Both parties are also sourcing for equipment to recover the aircraft from the runway.

Following the incident of flight MH2718 on 08 April 2017 that skidded upon landing at Sibu Airport, Malaysia Airlines will be sending an aircraft recovery kit from Kuala Lumpur to assist in the removal of the B737-800 off the runway.
An aircraft investigation team is also on the way assess the site.
To allow for the removal of the aircraft, Sibu Airport will be temporarily closed until 8pm today.
Due to this, Malaysia Airlines will be cancelling flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sibu on 09 April 2017. Affected passengers will be reallocated on the next available flights.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines is working hard to retrieve all passenger baggage from MH2718/ 08 April 2017. The airline will arrange for the baggage to be sent to the owners as soon as possible.
