MCMC Notice: Temporary Service Degradation of Mobile Services Until June 2017

PRESS RELEASE: TEMPORARY SERVICE DEGRADATION OF MOBILE SERVICES

CYBERJAYA, 30 September 2016 — Pursuant to the announcement made on spectrum reallocation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 1 February 2016 relating to the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands, Celcom, Digi and Maxis have started migrating their base stations to operate within their reallocated spectrum blocks.

This migration exercise is to facilitate the implementation of latest mobile services to subscribers.

The migration is currently being carried out in phases nationwide beginning September 2016 and will be fully completed by June 2017.

During this period, subscribers of Celcom, Digi and Maxis in affected areas may experience temporary service degradation.

Those who are affected may contact their respective service provider(s) as follows:

Celcom : 1111 (from Celcom numbers) or 019 601 1111
Maxis : 123 (from Maxis numbers) or 1 800 821 123
Digi : 016 221 1800

Zahari Suradi: the service degradation is beyond the acceptable level as the service quality is worse than during the analog days … calls frequently breaking up before it finally dropped … if this situation were to continue until the end of quarter 2 2017, there should be mechanism in place to compensate the customers for all the trouble that this migration is causing … as the authority in charge, mcmc should have put a mechanism in place to ensure that service quality is protected … as such, mcmc is as much to be blamed as all the service providers involved …
