Setting The Record Straight: No Affiliation With Any Political Parties

Recently, a newspaper article that linked OLDTOWN White Coffee to a political party was published. This article from Sin Chew Daily online, dated 2 November 2016 detailed a conversation between political persons from both the government and the opposition party revolving around the ownership of OLDTOWN White Coffee. DAP’s Dato’ Ngeh Khoo Ham made a claim that Datin Paduka Seri Hajjah Rosmah Mansor was a shareholder of OLDTOWN White Coffee and BN’s Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi refuted this.

This is not the first time that this has happened. Similar claims about OLDTOWN White Coffee being affiliated to political parties had been made since 2012. Several political individuals from both political sides have been alleged to own shares in OLDTOWN White Coffee.

Once again, we would like to make clear that OLDTOWN White Coffee is not affiliated in any way, whether financially, politically or personally, to any political parties or persons. We have made this statement before yet the hearsays continue thus the need to re-address this issue. The clarification of OLDTOWN White Coffee’s non-affiliation can be further read here:

Old Town White Coffee denies having any links to DAP

The Old Town White Coffee restaurant chain has denied having any links to DAP following allegations made by Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“We would also like to clarify once again that Old Town White Coffee is not affiliated with any political party, or any politician as recently alleged by a certain public figure, nor does the company have any political interests,” the company’s chairman, Ahmed Tasir, said in a statement today.

According to a Malaysiakini report, he stressed that Old Town is a public-listed company on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Board, and that none of its board members are active members of any political party.

Meanwhile, Perak DAP adviser Ngeh Koo Ham said he never owned any shares in Old Town White Coffee café franchise as claimed by Ismail Sabri.

He was quoted by Malaysian Insider as saying he wants Ismail Sabri to retract his remarks within 48 hours, adding that he would be lodging a police report against the minister today.

Meanwhile, Ahmed also reportedly gave an assurance that the restaurant’s halal certification remained valid, and that claims to the contrary are untrue and misinformed.

“Old Town White Coffee does not serve any non-halal food products or alcohol, and all our food and beverages are prepared in a halal manner.”

“We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that all our outlets in Malaysia remain halal-certified,” he said.
