Touch ’n Go to release mobile app
KUALA LUMPUR: Consumers will soon be able to go cash-free at their local grocery stores and even pasar malam via a mobile application rolled out by Touch ’n Go (TnG) Sdn Bhd.
Its chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said the electronic system company was exploring the possibility of allowing payment via the mobile application at small convenient stores and pasar malam.
“Consumers can use the mobile application and transfer money to the merchants directly via our own platform. It will be a totally new platform as you can make payment via the mobile app if you forget to bring your wallet,” he said at the launch of the new Touch ’n Go customer service hub at Nu Sentral yesterday.
The new hub, which operates from 10am to 10pm daily has customer service ambassadors who will provide help to customers on a one-to-one basis and is equipped with a self-service kiosk for credit reload.
Syahrunizam said the company was supportive of the Government’s vision of creating a cashless society and at the same time wanted to showcase that the company was at the forefront of the digital payment platform.
“We are looking at making e-payments below RM50 for the purchase of items like mineral water or newspapers. These are the things that we want to capture,” he said.
He said the company was at the stage of testing the mobile application system which was expected to be available in the first quarter of next year.
He also noted that Touch ’n Go, that has links with more than 123 merchants, would continue to expand its list of partners, especially at the community level.
“Among them are The Loaf, Baskin-Robbins and recently NZ Curry House, but we are always looking for smaller shops where they can accept Touch ’n Go,” said Syahrunizam.
He said there were about 16.2 million active cardholders, with more than eight million people using the cards daily with around RM5mil in daily transactions.
