Giant Panda Keeper Experience Volunteer Programme Guideline Manual

Introduction
Giant Panda Keeper Experience is a Volunteer Programme to expose public to the Giant Panda’s husbandry, behaviour and enrichment programmes.

This programme provides a close relation between Panda and human by understanding their social needs and spread willdife appreciation. Beside, by working hand in hand with zoo keeper, participants will build up their self-esteem through hands-on activities.

Scope

  1. To assist zoo keepers in providing daily care for the animals, including exhibit cleaning, food preparation and animal behavioural enrichment activities.
  2. To assist zoo keepers with special projects, including research and exhibit modifications and maintenance.
  3. To assist wherever help is needed on an ad-hoc basis.

Rules and Regulations for Zoo Negara Giant Panda Keeper Volunteer

  1. This programme is open to anyone age 18 years and above on individual basis only.

  2. A registration fee is from RM 150 to RM 300 per person. This registration fee is for the contribution of wildlife conservation education and enrichment programme.

  3. Volunteers must contact the Education Department at least a week before the arrival of the registered date to confirm his/her attendance and to cancel the booking date.

  4. The volunteer must fill up the Volunteer Application Form and send out the completed form includes full name, identity card number or passport number, contact number, signature and submit this form a week before the volunteering day.

  5. Volunteers are expected to arrive NO Later than 8.15 am. Late comers will NOT be entertained and will be advised to either come another day or pay the entrance fee to be a normal visitor.

  6. Volunteers must wear proper attire while on duty. That includes covered shoes, long trousers. Open-toed shoes, shorts, jewellery and sleeveless tops are NOT allowed. Long hair must be tied neatly.

  7. Volunteers are required to wear the tag or uniform provided at all times while on site.

  8. Work might NOT be given according to volunteer’s preference. It is important that volunteers are healthy when joining this programme in order to avoid any risk of transmitting diseases to the animals or others.

  9. Working hour is from 8.30 am until 4.00 pm (8 hours). Break Hour is from 10.30 am until 11.00 am, 1.00pm until 2.00pm or depending on the Keeper’s schedule.

  10. Volunteers are NOT allowed to record any pictures or video of the captive animals, indoor cage or animals’ night quarters.

  11. Volunteers must never touch, handle or feed the animals at any time for any reason without the permission from the Zoology Officers or Supervisors.

  12. Volunteers must never enter any enclosure with the animals without permission from the employees of Zoo Negara Malaysia.

  13. Volunteers must be careful and aware of all tools and personal belongings at all times while doing the programme.

  14. Volunteers must NOT interfere with the Management of Zoo Negara Malaysia.

  15. Volunteers are fully responsible for their own belongings, health and safety. The Management of Zoo Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Zoological Society and its employees will NOT be held responsible for any accidents, loss, claims, damage and injuries to the volunteer and personal property.

  16. Volunteer must settle the payment at least a day before and bring payment slip on that day for our references. All payment are non-refundable.
